Through mending and extending the life of otherwise discarded fabric, my work focuses on transforming textiles through thoughtful and age-old processes of dyeing, sewing, and painting. As I work on a concept to imbue, each piece is an exploration of material sensitivity, preserving its memory and breathing new life into the fabric whilst narrating the story of mine.

Sonia Gill is the founder of the multidisciplinary label SUMU. Raised in London, she has a Bachelors in Textile Design and worked in the industry before moving to her studio in Melbourne.
